My Blog Relaunch Story

Welcome to my new and improved blog!

Today I wanted to explain why I made the decision to create a whole new blog from scratch and what you can expect from here onwards. I will also contrast this blog with my previous blog,, as well as explain where the inspiration for the name 'Petals and Chains' came from.

💎 My First Blog 💎

My first and original blog, which was, was born in November 2016. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with it, and just created it to post content which I felt I wanted to post and not fitting in with a particular niche.

Then, in January, I changed my surname by deed poll (you can read why I changed my name here), so I updated my URL to to represent my name change!

As of late, I had an irregular blogging schedule. I felt that my enjoyment started to go down and I couldn't pinpoint exactly why.

In mid-July, I had a bit of a personal realisation, or 'mid-blog crisis', if you will. I realised that my current blog had been making me unhappy and reminded me of failures in my past, be that the downfall in the relationship with my father, or the fact that I tried to write a blog post about relationship anxiety so many times that I just couldn't do it because heartbreak made it too painful to write about.

💡 Name Ideas 💡

I knew that I didn't want to stop blogging because I had really enjoyed it, I just felt like I wanted a fresh start. I'd been toying with the idea of a new blog for quite some time, but I wasn't sure if I could do it alone. Thanks to the amazing blogging community on Twitter and the friends I've made as a result, I knew if I needed help I could ask. I messaged my friend Abbey asking if she could help me with the rebrand and she immediately said yes and shared my excitement in this project!

The most difficult part for me was choosing the name. As I said before, I just used my name as the title of my blog, but I wanted something fresh, something different. Nature and natural beauty always fascinated me so I wanted to choose a name that was flowery. My initial idea was 'Daisy Chains', but when I looked up the domain it was over £20,000!!! A little extortionate, to say the least...

'Rose Petals' was another name that I liked, and Abbey helped me to combine the two to form 'Rose Petals and Daisy Chains' which we both agreed sounded pretty, however, the URL would be quite long! Can you imagine ''?!

Abbey suggested 'Petals and Chains', and knowing that I wanted to mainly write about lifestyle and mental health, she proposed some deeper meaning behind the name; that 'petals' refers to lifestyle and positivity and 'chains' refers to breaking mental health stigma. That's when I knew it was the one!

✍️ Let's Do This! ✍️

Previously I had used Wordpress, but this time I decided to use Blogger; that way Abbey could guide me through the process and help with me any difficulties I have, as she uses Blogger too.

I made a checklist of things I needed to do; make private, have some design my blog logo for me (because I have no artistic talent whatsoever!) and chose a blog template.

If you'd like more information on my logo or my theme, please click here!

Don't forget to check out my dear friend Abbey's blog here and give her some love!

As of 1st August 2017, was born!

Thank you so much for reading this post and to all those who have supported me in this exciting project!

Lots of love,
